Windows and Fences

How we plan to meet halfway
But fail to show
How we hate the miles between us
And the distance we don’t

I speed by the windows and fences
Between us

How we plan the trip we take so carefully
But fail to show
How we share the same road together
And the detours we don’t

I speed by the windows and fences
Between us

How we map our lives so carefully
But fail to show
How we plan the turn that must come
And the bends we don’t

It’s the mystery and magic
Of these window and fences
Between us
Are windows and fences
That separates us from ourselves
And things not for knowing

How we weigh our words so carefully
But fail to speak
How we tear down these windows and fences
And the walls we keep

I speed by the windows and fences
Between us
