Tonight
Tonight, l got lost in my dreams.
Tonight, l went walking through the back alleys of my imagination.
Tonight, l got scorched by the heat of my mind,
And chilled to the very bone by the infinite possibilities of my slumber.
Tonight, l walked through the streets of my childhood and sifted through the soil of my grave.
Tonight,
Tonight, l got lost in my dreams.
I saw angels on high and demons below battling with sticks of silver and fists of gold.
I ran screaming down tunnels of black and purple brick,
Through waters stained red by something unknown.
Running through fields of concrete and streets of flowers,
On bridges of water, over solid lakes l ran.
In this night, in this long black night,
Where my heart was beating so fast, pumping so hard.
And the blood, my blood, our blood, forcing through my veins.
As l toss and turn, raging against the syringe universe.
My ever expanding, all consuming cosmos of needs.
Tonight,
Tonight, l got lost in my dreams.
Tonight l saw faces of those long dead, and those who were never born.
Tonight l am back in the womb,
Tonight l am re-born into my chemical high.
Tonight,
Tonight, l am lost and found,
I am saved, yet drowned,
I am pure and clean,
I am high and free,
But tonight is ending.
And l am beaten back by the warrior sunbeams that save the day,
That come in their golden armour with fiery swords,
Paving the way for the 9 till 5’s,
Making it safe for them to come out.
As the phalanx troops in armoured suits of silk with briefcase shields emerge.
To defend the day,
So tonight is over, for now.
