Mfon Etina

My name is Mfon Etina Etina, I am from Nigeria in West Africa.
A lady of 25 years, I just graduated from the University of Calabar in Nigeria,
where I read zoology. Writing, especially poetry, has always been my priority and I love it.
I have not been published as yet and I am still working on my first poetry book.

MAMA

Destiny always
Held a winning hand
Though it takes
A thousand stitches
To save nine now
Somehow
Someone must answer
The brittle, shallow
Call of nature
The unstable, windy thick bush
Known for its unfairness
Makes life hard
Surfacing sheer desperation
In the fugue of success and failure
Almost no one would....
But...
There's a humane voice
In the chorus line
Mama, greatest individual
In the world
The lining from your garland garment of faith
Gives me a clean cloth of hope
Fostered with courage
Good mother
Dead or alive
You are a small model of a barren earth
A crown of peaceful steps.
