In August 2000 he launched the “Greek and International Poetry and Art” website. Its aim was to promote contemporary Poetry from Greece and all over the world, in its original language, if possible. Its success was unexpected. I was overwhelmed with hundreds of submissions, from poets as far as India and Canada and the site was getting over 10000 visitors/year.
In 2002 he decided to upgrade the site to “interpoetry”. By “upgrading” it means giving it its own identity (URL), improve the quality of the site and also the quality of its content. Though the name implies that interpoetry is a poetry webzine it exists to provide a platform where all kinds of creative innovations can be published and its aim is to present a space where new creative writers and artists can be seen next to more successful, established ones. To help with the editorial responsibility and to raise interpoetry’s authority he recruited the welcomed, voluntary assistance of interested colleagues and friends. Thanks to the efforts and help of the co-editors interpoetry has become one of the most highly regarded and respected webzines, with over 1500 visitors/month, disproving the claim that no one reads poetry any more. Its success is based on contributions of mainly (with very few exceptions) unpublished work by some of the best contemporary Poets, Artists and Photographers from all over the word. Poets that need no introduction at all such as: Kevin Cadwallender, Desmond Graham, Alistair Elliot, Sally Evans, Alec Finlay,Linda France, Lee Harwood, Alamgir Hashmi, John Hegley, Ira Lightman, Richard Livermore, Patrick Pritchett, Pedro Serrano, Elizabeth Smither and Anne Stevenson among so many others. The future plans for interpoetry are a lot more ambitious. The website is going to be overhauled. It will become PHP and Database based. This is going to make it a lot easier to maintain and interactive. As the administrator he will only have to maintain a few HTML pages and a Database behind them, with data about Poets/Artists, their details and work. He also hopes to include sound-clips of poets reading their own work. The visitors will be able to view the content by Issue, Poet/Artist or some other angle. Also, they will have options of selecting deferent page-layouts and colour-schemes. Eventually he hopes to produce either a hardcopy, or a multimedia version of the website on CD in a yearly anthology. This way we hope to give an outlet to people who are interested in reading, writing and the visual arts where they will have a pleasurable experience and will return often. interpoetry is updated every two months and it accepts submissions on a rolling basis of poetry, prose, drama, reviews, articles, photography and artwork.
